Not sure what something means?

The way people find businesses and information online is changing. Traditional Google search results are still hugely important, but people are also getting answers through AI Overviews, Google’s AI Mode and other AI tools.

That doesn’t mean SEO or blogging is thrown out the window. Useful content based on genuine knowledge and experience can give search engines and AI systems more information to understand what your business knows, does and can help people with.

Google itself says that the fundamentals of good SEO still apply to its generative AI search features. The focus should still be on creating useful, original content for people rather than trying to write specifically for an algorithm or AI system.

So if you’ve been wondering whether it’s still worth writing articles for your business in 2026, my answer is yes – but what you write matters more than just having a blog.

Here are five good reasons to keep publishing useful content.

1. Building trust by showing that you are an expert in your industry

Your articles give you somewhere to demonstrate (and really show off!) what you actually know.

Instead of just telling visitors that you’re an expert, you can answer the questions customers regularly ask you, explain common problems, share your opinions and show examples from your own experience.

That’s now even more important when so much generic content can be produced using AI. An article containing your actual experiences with examples from your business gives people something they can’t get from another generic AI-generated article.

It also helps potential customers get to know how you think and communicate before they ever contact you.

2. Answer the questions your customers are already asking

Think about the questions customers and prospects regularly ask you often. Each one could become a useful article.

You could create how-to guides, checklists, comparisons, explanations, answers to common questions or advice based on situations you’ve encountered with real clients.

That gives existing customers a useful resource and helps potential customers who are researching the same questions find your business online.

The best subjects often come from conversations you’re already having with customers – not from trying to think of something clever to blog about.

3. Increase your visibility in traditional and AI search

Every useful article gives search engines another opportunity to understand the subjects your business has expertise in and another page that could appear for a relevant search.

Articles are useful for answering more specific questions that you might not cover on your main service pages.

This matters for AI-powered search too. Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on pages in Google’s search index, and Google says the same fundamental SEO principles continue to apply – useful, reliable, people-first content remains important.

Don’t write articles just to cram in a load of keywords, though. Write the best answer you can to a genuine question your customers have.

4. Give people a reason to stay in touch

Useful articles also give you something worthwhile to share in email newsletters and on social media.

Instead of every email or social post being promotional, you can direct people to genuinely useful information on your own website.

You can also invite readers to join your mailing list for future advice and updates, giving interested prospects a way to stay in touch, even if they’re not ready to buy yet.

5. Give other websites something worth linking to

Good content can also attract links and mentions from other websites.

If you’ve published something really useful – original research, a detailed guide, useful stats, an expert opinion or a resource people want to recommend – another website may link to it when discussing the same subject.

Relevant, high-quality links can help search engines discover and understand your website and can build its authority. They can also send potential customers straight to you.

The important thing is creating something worth referencing in the first place.

Bonus tip – Turn one piece of knowledge into lots of useful content

A good article doesn’t have to live just on your website. You can turn the key points into LinkedIn posts, Facebook content, newsletter topics, graphics, short videos and answers to FAQs.

That means one useful piece of expert content can work in several parts of your marketing – without having to come up with completely new ideas every time.
